SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

The APVRS 2024 Congress is less than four months away.  Here’s a sneak preview on three of the scientific sessions that will be taking place during the Congress!

Public Health Perspectives in Retinal Disease

Public health is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through organized efforts and informed choices. Science drives public health, and public health drives health policy. The World Health Organization and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness recognize the importance of region-specific data-driven health policy, such as the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) data. The GBD estimated that in 2019, at least 2.2 billion people lived with visual impairment. Four leading causes of visual impairment are refractive error, cataract, glaucoma and retinal diseases.  The current symposium, ‘Public Health Perspectives in Retinal Diseases’, will address how advanced scientific knowledge shapes national and global health policy on major retinal diseases. It will also discuss the global preparedness to meet the 2030 sustainable development goals and their execution in one of the Asia-Pacific countries.

Anatomical Endpoints in Clinical Trials

In this symposium, speakers from around the world will present and discuss the latest development in the evaluation of anatomical endpoints in clinical trials for various vitreoretinal and macular diseases. A wide spectrum of diseases will be covered including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy, inherited retinal diseases, vitreoretinal surgery, intraocular inflammation and pediatric retinal diseases.

Basics in Imaging from the Masters

Join us for a comprehensive 90-minute symposium designed to provide a foundational understanding of retinal and choroidal imaging. This session, titled "Basics of Retinal Imaging," will be led by esteemed experts who will delve into the essential principles, techniques, and advancements in retinal and choroidal imaging. Attendees will gain insights into various imaging modalities such as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Fundus Photography, Fluorescein Angiography, and Autofluorescence. The symposium will cover the practical applications of these technologies in diagnosing and managing retinal diseases, enhancing both clinical practice and research. Interactive discussions and case studies will facilitate a deeper understanding of how to interpret imaging results effectively. This symposium is ideal for ophthalmologists, researchers, and healthcare professionals eager to enhance their knowledge and skills in retinal imaging.
